Reserve Management Plans

Eskdale Park

A new 10-year Reserve Management Plan is being prepared for Eskdale Park, and our Hastings District Council parks team wants your input.

This rural park is much-loved by its nearby residents and is a destination park for people from across our region. It is popular for dog walking, family cricket games, picnicking under mature trees, and as an access point for playing in the Esk River, which borders the park. It is used by the nearby schools for recreation, and is also a popular park for large family and business groups gatherings. It has a small playground and toilet blocks that are coming due for renewal.

The preparation of this plan has been brought forward in response to public discussion on a suggestion by the Hawke’s Bay Mountain Bike Club that it may approach Council seeking permission to formally access its mountain bike trails across the river from Eskdale Park. It is important to note that while this process provides the opportunity to comment on specific activities on reserves land, no application for  mountain bike access from the park has been received by Council. Preparing this Reserve Management Plan will canvas all matters relating to the park, from asset replacement and development, to planting and grounds management. A question within this survey has been included to better understand your level of comfort for future activities in the park as well as suggest additional ideas for the park (if any).

This survey is part of a much larger information-gathering process to understand peoples views on and use of the park, including a ‘Coffee in Eskdale Park’ day schedule for 20 March, 11am to 1pm, and interviews in the park.
