Its goals include meeting housing and business demands, protecting natural resources, fertile soils, and cultural sites, and addressing climate change and natural hazards, including insights gained from Cyclone Gabrielle recovery efforts.
The draft Hastings and Napier Future Development Strategy (FDS) has been developed by a joint committee including Hastings District Council, Napier City Council, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, and iwi Post-Settlement Groups: Maungaharuru Tangitū Trust, Mana Ahuriri Trust, and Tamatea Pōkai Whenua.
It incorporates technical analysis as well as extensive feedback from residents, businesses, and interest groups.
